-Ratings for 'The Biggest Loser' Low in Ethiopia

Struggling to increase viewership, 'The Food Network' also on the ropes in poverty stricken country

    Report by Spencer Healey

Major broadcasting networks are baffled by the un-popularity of American TV hit shows like 'The Biggest Loser', 'Iron Chef', and 'Cake Boss' in third-world countries like Ethiopia. Viewership for 'The Food Network' was at 1.65% of all Ethiopians.  Surprising numbers in a country that knows little or nothing about fine dining and exquisite cuisine. The network is expected to run a new series to target the 'impoverished' market by sweeps week. The series, called 'Extreme Diets', will spotlight the kind of food starving families in Eastern Europe, India, and Africa eat to keep their slim figures. Network execs hope this will swing the ratings in their favor come February.
